A panel of leading industry professionals will come together to discuss innovation in the island’s financial services sector as part of the IoD’s JT Winter Seminar Series.
The event on 5th April entitled Leading from the Front? Innovation in Guernsey’s Financial Services will see a panel discussion on the recent innovations in financial services, what industry professionals should be aware of and where Guernsey can get ahead to ensure its financial services industry is fit for the future.
“The financial services industry, more than any other, substantially impacts Guernsey’s economy and in doing so has a significant impact on the future of the Island. Keeping up to date with the latest innovations in the sector is imperative if Guernsey is to successfully compete in an increasingly competitive global market,” says IoD Chair John Clacy.
Fiona Le Poidevin, CEO and Director of The International Stock Exchange Group Limited and IoD committee member will moderate the panel of speakers who include:
Mark Elliott, Director of Insurance Linked Securities at Aon will be talking about Guernsey’s innovative approach to insurance-linked securities (ILS) and how Guernsey can become closer to rivalling Bermuda as the world leader in this sector.
Nick Vermeulen, a member of Guernsey’s fintech strategy group and a partner at PwC specialising in financial services, will share his thoughts on why Guernsey is well placed as an attractive location for the fintech sector and how it has the potential to transform our local financial services and technology industries on the island.
Andy Sloan, Deputy Chief Executive, Strategy at Guernsey Finance and Chair of Guernsey Green Finance, an initiative which has been created with the support of leading politicians to help take Guernsey’s green and sustainable finance strategy to the next level.
Fiona Le Poidevin says, “Given macro-economic factors such as the seismic developments in technology globally and changing investor focus, we at the IoD feel it is important to provide directors with the information they need to spot opportunities in their own organisations and understand how they can support the island’s efforts in promoting itself as an innovative and impactful place to do business.
“It is important for Guernsey that everyone is aware of the industry’s direction of travel and we hope that delegates leave the event with a sense of what it is that they can contribute to the island’s innovation strategy”.
Paul Taylor, Managing Director - JT (Guernsey) comments: “JT is committed to ensuring that its business customers have access to high-speed, reliable connectivity, including the rollout of fibre services in Guernsey where it is viable to do so, allowing them to provide innovative services to their own customers.“This connectivity enables the business community to build on the island’s well-established reputation as an international centre of excellence for financial services, able to adapt swiftly to changes in pace and products.
“Digital capability is now core to the function and growth of the Guernsey business community and its future success, which is why we’re really pleased to be supporting this seminar and the IoD’s Seminar Series again this year. We will be interested to hear how Guernsey’s industry leaders view the future, take part in the debate and how we can all stay ahead of the curve.”
