The Institute of Directors (IoD) and Chamber of Commerce have issued a statement following news the Channel Islands Director of Civil Aviation is not supporting an extension to Guernsey’s runway.
The conclusion by the Channel Islands Director of Civil Aviation means that both the 1570m and 1700m runway extension options recommended for evaluation by PwC would require an expansion of the airport boundary into land specifically reserved for the purpose with the Island Development Plan (IDP).
The Chamber of Commerce and the IoD continue to call for a full social economic cost-benefit analysis into these options. As additional information regarding these options becomes available, we anticipate that the scope of the work can be refined to reduce the cost significantly below the £700k figure originally proposed.
Whatever the conclusion, the cost-benefit analysis is critical to ensuring the island develops a long-term air infrastructure strategy which is fit for purpose.
